Community Playwriting Workshop

Community Playwriting Workshop

Saturday, May 30th | 10:00 AM–12:00 PM
Online via Zoom

Everyone has an idea for a story, and this is your chance to bring that story to life. Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival’s playwriting workshop will feature exercises that will teach you the basics. Following the workshops, all participants are invited to submit a short play to be considered on the evening of readings known as the HVSF Bake-Off. This year’s Bake-Off theme is Mahican tuck, “The River that Flows Both Ways.”

WHAT IS THE BAKE-OFF?
Created by the Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Paula Vogel, the Bake-Off is a community playwriting event in which participants (this could be YOU) are given a list of “ingredients” surrounding a theme to incorporate into their play (for example: a kitchen sink, a front porch, and a withheld secret) to inspire creativity.

ABOUT THE WORKSHOPS
Christine Scarfuto will be leading the playwriting workshops for the Bake-Off. Scarfuto is Acting Director of the MFA playwriting program at Hunter College. Prior to her role with Hunter College she served as the Literary Manager at Long Wharf Theatre in New Haven, CT.
